Artifact Description

Before software, there were paper instructions.

At first glance, The Music Engine appears remarkably simple.

A small mechanism, a turning handle, a strip of paper and a punch.

Yet hidden within this unassuming device is the ability to create, record and replay original melodies of your own.

Unlike traditional music boxes, which play only the tune chosen by their maker, The Music Engine places that choice in the hands of its owner. By punching patterns into paper strips, you create the instructions that the mechanism later transforms into music.

Each strip becomes more than a melody. It becomes a record of it — a physical archive of ideas, experiments, favourite tunes and unexpected discoveries. Some may be replayed countless times. Others may be preserved as keepsakes, reminders of a moment, a person or a melody worth remembering.

Simple enough to invite experimentation, yet fascinating enough to reward curiosity, The Music Engine offers a glimpse into a world where information, creativity and mechanics meet.

Supplied with a paper punch and additional music strips for extended experimentation.

Part of the Inventorium – Engines of Creation.

Because before software, there were paper instructions.

Today’s artefact is deceptively simple.

A small mechanism, a turning handle, a strip of paper and a punch.

And yet, it appears capable of producing an almost limitless number of melodies.

Master of Inventorium:

The explanation is straightforward.

The machine reads instructions.

Keeper of Curiorium:

Instructions?

Master of Inventorium:

The perforated strip.

The holes determine which notes will be played.

Keeper of Curiorium:

So the melody is stored on the paper?

Master of Inventorium:

Correct.

Master of Scriptorium:

An old idea.

Keeper of Curiorium:

Music boxes?

Master of Scriptorium:

Older.

Much older.

For centuries, musicians, inventors and engineers searched for ways to preserve music.

Long before computers existed, instructions were already being stored on paper, cylinders and other mechanical media.

Master of Inventorium:

A sensible approach.

Master of Scriptorium:

Indeed.

The machine does not understand music.

It merely follows instructions.

Keeper of Curiorium:

That sounds familiar.

Master of Inventorium:

It should.

Because modern computers operate on the same principle.

Keeper of Curiorium:

I suspected this conversation would eventually become about computers.

Master of Inventorium:

An unavoidable outcome.

Archivist:

Interesting.

So the strip serves as both composition and record.

Master of Inventorium:

Correct.

Archivist:

Meaning a melody may be preserved long after it was first created.

So the machine creates music?

Master of Inventorium:

The first one is correct.

The second one isn’t.

The owner creates music

Keeper of Curiorium:

An important distinction.

Master of Arcanium:

Perhaps the most important distinction.

Keeper of Curiorium:

Why?

Master of Arcanium:

Because every melody begins as an idea.

Archivist:

And every strip preserves one.

Keeper of Curiorium:

Encouraging experimentation.

Tertiary Function:

Generating unexpectedly strong opinions from nearby cats.

Observed Components:

• Mechanical playback mechanism

• Hand crank

• Perforated recording medium

• Instruction editing tool (punch)

• Human creativity

Operating Principle:

The machine reads instructions encoded as perforations in a paper strip.

The machine then converts these instructions into audible output.

Assessment:

Surprisingly similar to several later technologies.

Observed User Behaviour:

• Initial curiosity.

• First experimental composition.

• Unexpected melody.

• Additional experimentation.

• Consumption of all available paper strips.

• Immediate desire for more paper strips.

Assessment:

Entirely predictable.

Recommendation No. 60

The first composition should not be judged too harshly.

Most operators improve rapidly.

Recommendation No. 61

Additional music strips are strongly recommended.

Creative enthusiasm frequently exceeds original estimates.

Recommendation No. 62

Perforations should be regarded as instructions rather than decoration.

Recommendation No. 63

The machine is incapable of composing.

Responsibility for unusual melodies remains with the operator.

Recommendation No. 64

Nearby cats may serve as independent quality inspectors.

Recommendation No. 65

Preserve successful compositions.

Future versions of yourself may appreciate them.

Final Assessment:

A deceptively simple machine capable of transforming ideas into music.

The standard paper strips supplied with The Music Engine are perfectly suited for experimentation, composition and everyday use.

However, members of the workshop have recently begun investigating alternative materials intended for the long-term preservation of particularly successful melodies.

Research is ongoing.

Results are promising.

Artifact Description

Not every discovery begins with a map.

In fact, we first discover something interesting, and only then do we mark it on the map.

It all begins with a simple decision to look a little further. To venture into the unknown not only with our feet, but also with our eyes, and to ask ourselves a quiet question:

What lies beyond?

The Navigator’s Telescope is a compact observation instrument inspired by the pocket telescopes once carried by navigators, explorers and travellers.

It is intended for those who have never quite stopped asking that question.

Like the instruments once carried by explorers of old, the Navigator’s Telescope is small enough to accompany any journey, yet powerful enough to make it worth keeping close at hand.

Whether used to observe distant landscapes, wildlife, historic landmarks, unusual plants, interesting mechanisms or simply the horizon itself, it serves as a reminder that curiosity remains one of humanity’s most valuable traits — the foundation of countless discoveries, inventions and journeys into the unknown.

Every explorer seeks something different. Some search for distant places, others for forgotten stories, rare plants, ingenious mechanisms or answers to questions that have yet to be asked. Fortunately, the world offers no shortage of things worth exploring.

A telescope does not create discoveries.

It merely allows its owner to notice what was already there.

Crafted in a classic style, with a compact telescopic design and protective carrying case, it is equally suited to practical use, display amongst a collection of curiosities, or as a gift for those who remain curious about the world.

Part of the Inventorium – Explorer Collection.

Because not every journey requires a destination.

Sometimes all it takes is a reason to look beyond the horizon.

Sometimes all it takes is a question:

Many discoveries began with careful observation.

Yet observation alone is rarely enough.

One must also remember what was seen.

Some journals are purchased with a specific purpose in mind.

Others seem to discover their purpose over time.

Empress of the Summer Court belongs firmly to the latter category.

Inspired by floral motifs and the Art Nouveau tradition associated with Alphonse Mucha, this Sovereign Journal feels equally at home in an artist’s studio, upon the desk of a poet, or among the carefully kept records of a naturalist.

Whether used as a personal journal, an artist’s sketchbook, a collection of observations, or a volume reserved for more unusual pursuits, its pages await a purpose chosen by their future owner.

Beneath its richly decorated cover await 496 pages of premium 200 gsm paper — a generous canvas for journaling, calligraphy, sketching, study notes, plans, ideas, and creations worthy of preservation.

Hand-painted page edges and metal corner protectors complete a volume designed not merely to be admired, but to accompany its owner for many years to come.

Its pages remain open to creativity, learning, personal reflection, and other pursuits best left undefined.

An elegant choice.

Certainly.

Inspiration often arrives from unexpected places.

Many of them happen to be growing outdoors

Artifact Description

At first glance, The Tabula Calefacta appears to be a simple electric heating plate.

In practice, it is something far more useful.

Whether you create candles, blend fragrances, prepare herbal mixtures, melt wax, warm ingredients for craft projects, or simply enjoy experimenting with materials and ideas, a reliable source of controlled heat quickly becomes an indispensable companion.

Compact and easy to use, The Tabula Calefacta offers a practical solution for small workshops, creative studios and home laboratories alike. Its modest size allows it to fit comfortably on almost any workbench while still providing enough heating capacity for a wide variety of tasks.

Curiorium does not consider this device a laboratory instrument.

Nor a kitchen appliance.

Nor a crafting tool.

It has proven capable of being all three.

Artifact Description

The Vortix Aquae is a compact magnetic stirring device designed for mixing liquids through the use of a magnetic stirring bar.

Using a brushless motor and adjustable speed control, it creates a rotating magnetic field beneath the vessel. This field drives the stirring bar placed inside the liquid, producing a smooth vortex without direct contact.

Its compact size makes it suitable for laboratories, workshops, studios and workbenches where reliable liquid mixing is required.

Whether working with botanical extracts, pigments, inks, fragrances or other liquid preparations, the Vortix Aquae provides a convenient and elegant solution.

Artifact Description

Some objects require little explanation.

The Fasciculus Marmoreus belongs firmly to that category.

Crafted from natural marble, this elegant container offers a simple and timeless way to store herbs, spices, tea, salt and other frequently used ingredients. Its solid construction provides a pleasant sense of weight and permanence, while the fitted marble lid helps protect contents from dust and everyday exposure.

Available in both light and dark marble, each piece possesses its own unique character. Natural variations in colour, veining and pattern are expected and ensure that no two examples are exactly alike. Some pieces may display distinctive marbling, while others may appear almost entirely uniform in colour.

Whether placed in a kitchen, workshop, study or botanical laboratory, the Fasciculus Marmoreus combines practicality with the enduring beauty of natural stone.

Manus Adiutrix. The Helping Hand.

Every workshop eventually encounters the same problem:

there are never enough hands.

The Manus Adiutrix was created to solve this persistent inconvenience by providing stable support wherever patience, precision and gravity begin competing for attention.

Designed for laboratories, workshops and ambitious projects of uncertain complexity, it offers a reliable framework for holding glassware, tools, instruments and experimental assemblies exactly where they are needed.

The modular configuration allows the user to arrange supports, clamps and rings according to the requirements of the task at hand, transforming a simple stand into a remarkably adaptable workshop companion.

Its design is intentionally straightforward.

No unnecessary complexity.

No unnecessary ornamentation.

Only a stable foundation, a capable structure and the quiet reliability expected from a tool intended to serve for years.

Simple in concept.

Invaluable in practice.

Configurations Observed in the Chambers

Mistress Curiovera’s Workshop

Single Configurations:

• Manus Adiutrix III-3

For herbs, infusions and preparations requiring only modest assistance.

• Manus Adiutrix III-6

For occasions when a single experiment develops additional ambitions.

Chamber Sets:

• Scholar Set (3 + 3)

A balanced arrangement suitable for most laboratory and workshop tasks.

• Artificer’s Set (3 + 6)

Favoured by inventors, herbalists and individuals known to begin one project before finishing another.

• Master’s Set (6 + 6)

Recommended only for those who insist on assembling the entire apparatus at once.

Curiovera’s Workshop Note

While often associated with laboratories and technical apparatus, the Manus Adiutrix has long been a familiar sight within botanical workshops as well.

Distillation systems, aromatic preparations and delicate glass assemblies rarely share Inventorium’s confidence in gravity. A reliable support structure allows attention to remain focused on observation and preparation rather than preventing unexpected encounters with the floor.

For this reason alone, several Manus Adiutrix units have become permanent residents of my workshop.

The Dentes Lapidei II is a traditional hand-operated stone mill designed for tea, herbs, spices and small-batch preparations.

Positioned between the mortar and the full-sized mill, it offers a deliberate and satisfying approach to grinding, blending and refining ingredients. Whether preparing tea, botanical mixtures or culinary pastes, it rewards patience with consistency and control.

Some tools are built for production.

Others are built for preparation.

The Dentes Lapidei II belongs firmly to the latter.

Artifact Description

Not every ingredient requires a large mill, and not every preparation calls for force alone.

The Dentes Lapidei II occupies the space between the mortar and the full-sized stone mill, offering a deliberate and controlled method of grinding herbs, tea leaves, spices and other dry ingredients.

Crafted from stone and operated by hand, it transforms preparation into part of the process itself. As the upper stone rotates, ingredients are gradually crushed and refined, allowing greater control over texture than many conventional grinders.

While particularly suited to tea, herbs and spices, the Dentes Lapidei II is equally capable of preparing culinary mixtures such as chili, garlic or herb pastes when required. Its generous stone surfaces provide efficient grinding while preserving the tactile satisfaction of traditional preparation methods.

This is not a machine designed for speed or industrial quantities.

It is a tool designed for attention.

Whether preparing tea for a quiet evening, grinding spices for a meal, or experimenting within the chambers of Curiorium, the Dentes Lapidei II rewards patience with consistency and control.

“Crazy Horse” leather is natural cowhide finished with waxes and oils, giving it exceptional durability and a distinctive, slightly changing appearance. During use, the material reacts to touch, bending, and pressure—subtle variations in shade and minor marks may appear, which are a natural result of the leather’s wear.

This type of finish means that surface scratches can usually be easily reduced by gently rubbing the area, which evens out the color thanks to the presence of waxes. Over time, the leather develops a unique patina, highlighting its natural character and the uniqueness of each piece.

It is precisely these properties that give Crazy Horse leather products their unique appearance as they are used.

Keeper of Curiorium:

Today I found something interesting on the shelves at Scriptorium.

Master of Scriptorium :

Personally, I think it’s not only interesting but also well-made, and simply perfect for explorers of all kinds. And 400 pages is nothing to sneeze at.

Master of Inventorium :

Plus, there’s nothing to complain about when it comes to the craftsmanship or materials. It’s solid work in that old-school style, and it reminds me of the Wild West or some other frontier of civilization.

Master of Scriptorium :

IIt’s not just old-school… this leather ages beautifully, though I’m sure there’s a different term for it. And maybe we could add something, just from us.

Master of Inventorium :

Patina—a good name for the aging process. This leather is already “sealed,” but we can add a little personalization, a brass plate; its beautiful color will harmonize wonderfully with the color of the leather, though copper has its place here too, and on this plate, initials or something similar. Just don’t overdo it and ruin it with too much. Let’s keep a little mystery.
